CWS Window Installation: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

CWS window installation in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $180 to $420 per window for parts and labor, and we complete most replacements in a single visit. The work covers removing the old unit, prepping the opening, setting the new sash or balance system correctly, and hauling away the failed hardware. Most homeowners find out a part has failed the hard way: a window that drops shut on its own, a sash that jams halfway, or a frame that leaks air even though the glass looks fine.

CWS built a solid reputation for mid-range vinyl and aluminum windows in South Florida, but Fort Lauderdale’s salt air and humidity punish certain components faster than the brochure admits. Balance systems, pivot bars, and weatherstripping fail first. We see it on both single-hung and horizontal slider models, especially on east-facing elevations where the sun and salt work together. The good news is that most CWS window installation failures are repairable without replacing the entire window.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS produced several series over the years, and parts do not always cross between them. The Compass series, the Coastal line, and older builder-grade CWS units each use different balance systems and pivot hardware. Before we quote anything, we read the label etched into the corner of the glass or stamped on the frame’s edge. That tells us the series, the manufacture date, and often the exact balance spec.

Here’s the gotcha we run into constantly in Fort Lauderdale: CWS changed balance shoe designs at least twice between 2005 and 2015, and the new shoe does not seat properly in the older frame channel. If you buy the wrong one from a parts website, you’ll fight it for an hour and still end up with a window that binds. We keep both shoe designs on the truck, so the window gets measured against what’s actually in the frame, not what a catalog says should fit.

For most CWS windows from 2003 forward, we install OEM or equivalent aftermarket balances. On the older pre-2003 frames, OEM parts are largely discontinued, so we specify a quality aftermarket balance with matched weight ratings. The honest answer on aftermarket: some are junk, some are better than original. We use the ones we’d put in our own house.

We also work on PGT, CGI, and ES Windows units, so if your home has mixed brands, we can handle the whole property in one visit.

Signs Your CWS Window Installation Is Failing

  • Window drops shut when you let go. The balance system has lost tension or a pivot bar snapped. This is the number one CWS failure we replace in Fort Lauderdale, and it usually starts as a slow drift before it becomes a full drop.
  • Sash sticks or requires two hands to move. Dirt and salt corrosion build up in the balance channel, or the shoe has cracked and is dragging. Forcing it just scores the channel and makes the eventual repair more expensive.
  • Visible condensation between the panes on double-glazed units. The seal has failed. On CWS windows older than eight years in coastal air, this is common. The window still functions, but the glass is done and replacing the sash may cost less than you expect.
  • You can feel airflow around a closed window. Weatherstripping has compressed or the sash is out of square in the frame. In July, you’ll feel it. In hurricane season, you’ll think about it every time the wind picks up.
  • Lock or latch no longer lines up. The frame may have settled, or the hinge hardware has worn enough to shift the sash. This is often an adjustment first, a part replacement second.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

CWS window installation in Fort Lauderdale falls into clear ranges. Balance replacement (parts and labor) runs $110 to $190 per window. Pivot bars and shoes: $85 to $150. Full weatherstripping replacement: $65 to $120 per sash. A complete replacement sash with new glass for a failed-seal CWS unit runs $220 to $420 per window depending on size and glass package. These are honest ranges for our market, not bait numbers.

Every quote includes removal of the failed part, proper installation and adjustment, and cleanup. We write line-item quotes on paper, side by side if you want to compare OEM versus aftermarket. The 90-Day Done Right Promise covers our workmanship, and both manufacturer warranty layers get registered in writing before our truck leaves your driveway. That’s the Keystone Standard, and it applies whether we’re replacing one balance or doing a full CWS window installation across the house.

DIY or Call Us?

There are things you can safely check on a CWS window. Clear debris from the bottom track. Look for a broken pivot bar hanging loose at the bottom of the sash. Note whether the failure is on both sides or just one. That information helps us quote accurately over the phone.

Here’s where DIY goes wrong: CWS balance systems are under spring tension. Removing a balance without releasing that tension properly can send the shoe and spring flying, and it will take a chunk of finger with it if you’re unlucky. If the window has dropped or the sash is jammed, call us. The repair is usually less than the urgent care copay, and we’ll have it done while you go about your day. Call (754) 310-3589 and a live person answers, day or night.

What Neighbors Say About TruePane Windows & Doors

★★★★

"Energy bill was the reason we called. They did not oversell - said the two worst walls of windows would do most of the work and we could stop there. Did those eight with the Low-E glass. August electric bill tells the story."

HHarold W.
★★★★★

"A casement crank had stripped and the sash was swollen shut. The technician, Ray, fixed the crank on the spot and only then talked about replacement for the three windows that were genuinely done. That is why the whole street uses them now."

EEleanor G.
★★★★★

"Eleven windows replaced in two days. The crew chief, Marcus, showed me the level on every single frame before they caulked it. My wife noticed the street noise was gone before I did."

RRonald P.
★★★★★

"Impact windows on the whole house. They handled the permit, the inspection, and gave me a folder with every approval number for the insurance company. My windstorm premium dropped enough to notice."

BBill T.
★★★★★

"Whole-house window replacement at 71 years old is not something you want to do twice. Dale walked the house himself for the quote. Crew was the same three men all four days, and the foreman knew every window by room."

PPat and Ray L.
★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★★

"French doors to the patio, custom size because this house was built in 1961 and nothing is standard. Measured twice, three weeks to fabricate like they warned, and the install day they laid runners over my floors without being asked."
