CGI Window Replacement: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

We replace CGI windows throughout Fort Lauderdale, and most full-unit replacements run $850 to $1,400 installed for standard openings. If you have a failed seal, a cracked lite, or hardware that no longer locks, we can usually get the correct CGI-compatible part and complete the swap the same week we measure it. The way most owners discover the problem is simple: condensation trapped between the glass that won’t wipe away, a crank or slider that suddenly needs two hands, or a lock that spins without catching. In coastal air, these failures don’t fix themselves, they get worse.

TruePane Windows & Doors is an independent installer and service provider. We are not affiliated with CGI, but we’ve been matching and replacing their units on Fort Lauderdale homes for years, which means we know what fits, what doesn’t, and what a salt-air environment does to these windows over a decade.

Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI product lines change over the years, and the sticker or etching on your glass is the fastest way to identify what you have. Look for the rectangular logo etched in the corner of the glass, usually on the interior face. CGI’s most common residential series include Estate, Estate Collection, Estate 6000, Targa, and the newer Sentinel line, plus their commercial-grade Series 300. The etching will note the standard, typically “Miami-Dade NOA” or a Florida Product Approval number, and that matters because your replacement glass package has to carry the same approval certification to keep your home compliant with Fort Lauderdale building code.

The compatibility gotcha most owners hit is this: a CGI frame from 2008 is not the same interior profile as one from 2018, even when both are labeled “Estate Collection.” Same series name, different extrusion depth, different glazing bead. That’s why we always pull the existing sash and measure the actual glass thickness and frame channel before ordering. CGI sashes generally use either a 7/16″ or 1″ insulated glass unit depending on the series and impact rating, and guessing wrong means a lite that won’t seat. For older CGI units where the original OEM part is discontinued, we’ll tell you straight and spec a code-compliant aftermarket lite that matches the existing frame. We’d rather do that than sell you a branded part that doesn’t actually fit.

Signs Your CGI Window Replacement Is Failing

  • Persistent fogging or moisture between the glass panes. The desiccant inside the spacer bar is saturated and the inert gas has leaked out. This is a failed seal, common in Fort Lauderdale because humidity and direct sun put constant thermal stress on the IG unit.
  • The window is harder to open or close than it used to be. For casements and awnings, this usually means the operator gear is worn or the hinge friction is off. For sliders, the rollers have flattened or the track is scored. Forcing it makes the damage worse.
  • The lock or latch no longer engages. On many CGI impact windows, the multipoint lock bar rides inside the frame. A bent bar, a misaligned strike, or a broken gearbox means the window won’t secure, and on an impact-rated window, that’s a security issue as much as a convenience one.
  • Visible cracking, chipping, or a spider-web fracture in the glass. Even if it’s a small chip at the edge, impact glass is laminated. Once the outer pane is compromised, the unit’s ability to hold together in a storm is reduced. Fort Lauderdale homes inside the wind-borne debris zone need every lite in full working order.
  • Water staining or soft rot on the interior sill or wall below the window. That means the window’s drainage path is blocked or a seal has opened, and water is getting into places it shouldn’t. By the time you see the stain, the leak has been working for a while.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For CGI-compatible window replacement in Fort Lauderdale, most single-sash replacements run $425 to $650 installed, and full-unit replacements (frame and all) typically fall between $850 and $1,400 depending on size, series, and whether custom sizing is required. A fixed picture window on the cheaper end; a large casement or a unit with custom dimensions on the higher end. Multi-unit jobs bring the per-window cost down because the truck roll and setup time get spread across more openings.

What that price includes: the correct glass package for your CGI series, new glazing bead or gasket as needed, hardware match or replacement, proper installation and sealing, and haul-away of the old unit. Before any work starts, you get a line-item written quote, not a ballpark number scrawled on a pad. We register both warranty layers in writing before our truck leaves your driveway, and the installation itself is backed by our 90-Day Done Right Promise. If the pane is not true, the job is not done.

DIY or Call Us?

What you can safely do is identify the problem: check the etching for the series name and Florida Product Approval number, photo the corner of the sash, and note whether the failure is glass, hardware, or frame. That information saves you a second trip and helps us quote accurately over the phone. What we don’t recommend is pulling a CGI impact sash out of its frame yourself. These are heavy units; a large casement sash can run over fifty pounds, and a dropped sash destroys the frame corner in seconds. Removing the glazing bead and handling tempered-laminated glass without proper tools is how a $500 replacement becomes a $1,200 repair. And if you have a second-story unit, ladder work and heavy glass don’t mix with a good Saturday morning. Call (754) 310-3589 and let a technician who handles CGI frames every week take the measurements and do the swap.

What Neighbors Say About TruePane Windows & Doors

★★★★

"Energy bill was the reason we called. They did not oversell - said the two worst walls of windows would do most of the work and we could stop there. Did those eight with the Low-E glass. August electric bill tells the story."

HHarold W.
★★★★★

"A casement crank had stripped and the sash was swollen shut. The technician, Ray, fixed the crank on the spot and only then talked about replacement for the three windows that were genuinely done. That is why the whole street uses them now."

EEleanor G.
★★★★★

"Eleven windows replaced in two days. The crew chief, Marcus, showed me the level on every single frame before they caulked it. My wife noticed the street noise was gone before I did."

RRonald P.
★★★★★

"Impact windows on the whole house. They handled the permit, the inspection, and gave me a folder with every approval number for the insurance company. My windstorm premium dropped enough to notice."

BBill T.
★★★★★

"Whole-house window replacement at 71 years old is not something you want to do twice. Dale walked the house himself for the quote. Crew was the same three men all four days, and the foreman knew every window by room."

PPat and Ray L.
★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★★

"French doors to the patio, custom size because this house was built in 1961 and nothing is standard. Measured twice, three weeks to fabricate like they warned, and the install day they laid runners over my floors without being asked."
